Evonik is expanding its production capacities for TEGO® Phobe hydrophobes and TEGO® Viscoplus polyurethane thickeners in Europe. The expansion project was officially launched in October. The capacity expansion will meet the growing market demand for additives in architectural coatings. The additional capacity in Europe will help to increase the security of supply in the region and globally.
Hydrophobizing agents are mainly used for waterproofing of exterior coatings. Silicone resin emulsions such as TEGO® Phobe 1659 effectively reduce the water absorption of the coating film, while polysiloxanes such as TEGO® Phobe 1409 give the coating film a good water beading effect.
The TEGO® Viscoplus product range contains polyurethane thickeners that meet all relevant customer requirements. These products are liquid, free of organic solvents, and are compatible and easy to use in combination with each other.
According to Nadia Lenhardt, Head of Marketing EMEA at Evonik Decorative Coatings, the expansion of the plant is intended to meet the growing demand for the two additives for decorative coatings more quickly. Although Evonik has expanded its production capacity in Europe, it can also ensure a more stable supply in the global supply chain.
Evonik's hydrophobizing agents are mainly used in topcoats for exterior architectural coatings. TEGO® Phobe 1659, for example, helps silicone-acrylic emulsions to further reduce water absorption, while TEGO® Phobe 1409, whose main ingredient is a polysiloxane, provides excellent beading effects.
TEGO® Viscoplu polyurethane thickeners, which do not contain organic solvents, are extremely compatible and can be easily combined with different formulation systems.
